File Extension AMR

Files with File Extension AMR are used to store spoken audio encoded with AMR codec.

AMR audio files are different from usual audio codecs like MP3 because AMR is optimized for speech audio.

AMR codec is adopted by 3GPP and is widely used on GSM and UMTS networks. Its main advantage for mobile networks is a capability to select encoding bit rate based on connection quality. This allows for good call quality even when connection is poor.

To open AMR file you could use pretty much any media player given it has codec which supports AMR. Examples of players support AMR are: Apple QuickTime, RealPlayer, ffdshow, FFmpeg, AMR player.

You can also use audio conversion software to convert AMR file into more popular format like MP3 or WAV which could be open by Windows Media Player.
